Madam Ama Bene(MamaShow), Eastern Region BIRTH & EDUCATION:
Madam Ama Bene a.k.a "Mama Show" was born in 1956 at Koforidua. She had to drop out of school in her early years when her guardian passed away. "Mama Show" became a petty trader, sold her wares from door to door, and saved enough money and enrolled for training in dressmaking, as well as catering and cake making.

One day she discovered four orphans in distress in a house, and the land lord had asked them to leave the property. Her maternal instincts prevailed upon her and she took the children to her home, and adopted them. With the proceeds from her micro trading, she paid their education, and now they have become pastor, mechanic, carpenter and educationist, with one of them currently pursuing a phD at KNUST, Kumasi.

But Mama Show did not end there. She has established links with some NGOs and supplies schools in Asokore, Effiduase and Nyame Krom all in the New Juaben Municipality with educational material. She supports patients who cannot settle their hospital bills and continues to cater for them. She adopted one such young girl child whose parents had given up on her, nurtured her to full recovery and paid her education to become a nurse. She now works as a professional nurse in the UK, and sends remittances with which Mama Show continues to support the community.

She later adopted three more orphaned or abandoned babies who are all now in basic level school. One of the three was the offspring of a mentally challenged woman.

Her community describes her as kind, approachable, hospitable, courageous and ready to defend anyone whose human right is violated. She will not hesitate to call the Police to fight against crime in her community whenever necessary, even the Regional Coordinator of police in difficult times for the benefit of the community. For this reason she earned the titles "Crime Fighter" and "Yaa Asantewaa".

She is also a youth counselor, and organizes women groups for counseling and skill development. Many people approach her to arbitrate their disputes and her success rate in settling conflicts keeps growing. She is by all counts a true woman of Excellence. Shear Power Ventures congratulates her on her selection by her community members as the Portrait of an Excellent Woman 2008.
