" Issaka developed a burning desire to rescue and nurture abandoned and unwanted children in society when she encountered an abandoned day old baby girl at the Tamale Hospital in 1977 whom she cared so much for that the nurses nicknamed the infant 'Baby Fati'. Unfortunately, however, the infant died. "

PROJECTS

As an experienced teacher a lot of my work centres on the youth. I have started reading clubs in some selected schools in Sunyani municipality. I have visited more than 30 schools, donating books and cash to support education. I counsel and encourage students to make the most of their education; particularly the girl-child to stay in school and study as hard as the male students. Some of the schools are Solomon Bennett schools, Kiddies Paradise, Nyamaa Primary & JSS, SUSEC Model, Estate Primary, Presby schools, Beno Nkwanta, Infant Jesus, Don Bosco, Kukurom, Sibco etc.

I have adopted the Nkwanbeng Sunyani Childrens ward in Healthlane Hospital, and present them with books and drinks. I am the youth patron, and a resource person for the Regional Youth Mentorship. I also offer free tuition to selected disadvantaged BECE candidates (JHS 3) in Sunyani Municipality - such as the Presby JHS, SESEC Model, Nyamaa JHS, the Catholic JHS (St. Patrick & St. James, Infant Jesus, Free teaching in Christian Leadership Institute - Sunyani.

ACHIEVEMENTS

1. My main achievement as a teacher is being a role model especially for the female students and young teachers in my school, the region and the country as a whole. I instil discipline, dedication and hard work into all the numerous students I have taught for almost 30 years now. I have helped build and shape the country's human resources. Some of my students are now nurses, teachers, bankers, and lawyers, just to mention but a few.

2. I have rekindled reading among students as a basic tool for language learning. I also set up debate clubs to challenge students learn more in their leisure time. I am thankful to Sedco Publishers, Approaches Series, Longman London Publisher, Sunyani Municipal Office and a few individuals who donated reading and writing materials to me to enable me undertake this reading project.

6. Initiated the All Girls meeting in all the schools I taught. It was a platform to counsel girls and emphasise girls education in B/A.

9. Finally in 2005 I emerged as the Overall National Best Teacher and received the coveted award.

MESSAGE

My message to the youth is simple, please get any sort of education whilst you are young, be submissive, disciplined and focused. Parents, educate your children especially the girl child, and provide your children with life's basic needs. (love, shelter, security etc). Communities must liase with parents and churches in the training of the youth.

Government - Teachers' motivation is low, the Government has done a lot for teachers, but still teachers' conditions of service must be improved, the teachers salary must be similar to other professional workers in the country to raise the teachers image.
